I bought an MSR Windpro because I am a big fan of canister fuels, but I hate the instability of a stove mounted on the top of a canister. The canister-mounted stoves are also very susceptible to wind. I’ve been very impressed with the Windpro’s versatility, stability, and resistance to wind. The Fernandez trail head, located in the Ansel Adams Wilderness of the Sierra National Forest, is the starting point for many excellent backpacking destinations and several different trails. To get there, take Beasore Road from Bass Lake, CA. Drive about 29 miles on Beasore Road, then turn left at the Fernandez trail head road sign. Another 2 miles of driving will take you to the trail head. A truck or SUV is recommended because of the dirt roads, but I have seen many cars arive just fine.
